Sinus lift (sinus augmentation)

Our uniqueness is found not only in the nature and in the style of life, but primarily in the anatomical structure of the body. Therefore, it is often in dental implantology there are situations when  anatomical features of osseous (bone) tissue structure, exactly  the deficiency  of tissue in the  operated area  in the maxillofacial part , make it impossible to place implants without preliminary  surgery called sinus lifting(sinus augmentation). Nowadays, there are practically no conditions under which it would be impossible to place the implant. All of these conditions are easily overcome by implant surgeons with the help of different variants of bone grafting and unique implants of the company Bio3 Implants.

Sinus lift (the correct name “subantral augmentation”) – the most common surgery used in dental implantology for osseous (bone) tissue grafting. Sinus lift technique is to increase the bone volume due to sinus floor elevation (SFE procedure).

Maxillary sinus is the largest of the paranasal sinuses. When it comes to prosthetics using implants, bone volume between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus is not often enough for it. As this volume is small, the implant can not keep in the bone tissue and it falls in the maxillary sinus. So, sinus lift surgery was invented to create a bone volume in the area of implantation.

The procedure of the sinus lift comes down to the fact that through a thin hole in the gum and bone, sinus floor (on the upper jaw (super maxilla) it is exactly above the bone) is moved aside. After that free space is filled with a synthetic bone and it is gradually healing. Direct (external) sinus lift is used to create a sufficiently large bone volume. Indirect sinus floor lift is performed with a few millimeters lack of bone.

As a result the sinus lift operation helps to increase bone volume and makes it possible to integrate implants into the bone and restore the missing tooth.

Indication for sinus lift is, as it is already clear, deficiency of bone in the area of operation, but the contraindications may be the following:

– Exacerbation of chronic maxillary sinusitis;

– The recovery period after surgery in the sinuses;

– Neoplastic process in the maxillary sinus or upper jaw (super maxillas);

– Anticancer radiotherapy or chemotherapy;

– Autoimmune diseases;

– Active smoking (more than two packs a day), but it is a relative contraindication for dental implants anyway.

Also, there are some restrictions in lifestyle, but rather recommendations for care that should be taken into account before making a decision about sinus lift.

After sinus lift it is forbidden to fly, jump into the water and dive. You should also avoid physical exercises, visiting baths or sauna, it is not desirable to have hypothermia. In addition, within a few days after sinus lift surgery you should not sneeze, cough, if you can not control yourselves, it should be done very carefully, because the increase of pressure in the sinuses can lead to poor healing processes. In the sinus lift postoperative period, it is not worth drinking through a straw and smoking.

Therefore all the uniqueness of our body requires a unique approach in methods and equipment in the process of treatment. Specialists of the company Bio3 Implants while developing   implants take into account all features and variety of approaches in the treatment of each patient, and it is reflected in the uniqueness and variety of products for the health and joy of life.
