Things to remember after sinus lift procedure?

Sinus lift – a dental surgery, which is performed in the maxillary sinus of the upper jaw: its floor is raised higher and the resulting space is filled with artificial or native bone substance. This procedure is done to increase the thickness of the bone of the upper jaw, if it is not enough for dental implants on strict indications or it has contraindications, and you will know about it from the  implant surgeon.

The procedure of bone grafting of the upper jaw can be performed in two techniques: open and closed.  The surgery of closed or indirect sinus lift is possible, if the bone thickness of the maxillary sinus floor exceeds 7-8 mm, it is performed  practically without  incisions, only a small hole for the implant placement in the increased bone volume. Open sinus lift is possible when the height of the bone is lower than 7 mm, this technique is more complicated, as it is performed in the side wall of sinus and  also filled with bone material.

An implantologist will do a survey and examination on the first consultation, to determine the necessity and indications for sinus lift procedure and after the dental implant surgery he will carefully observe the results of treatment in the postoperative period. He will explain how to behave in order that the results may satisfy expectations of treatment. There are some restrictions and they include the following behavior algorithm. It is important to know that the patient after the dental implant surgery with sinus lift is not allowed to sneeze, blow his nose and puff cheeks. All these actions are changing the pressure in the maxillary sinus, may cause the changes in the location of bone substitute and disrupt the surgery result. Sneezing must be very quiet and slow and cleaning the nasal passages must be done in other ways. To rinse the mouth after the surgery is not recommended for twenty–four hours.

It is forbidden to drink beverages through a straw and smoke. It is connected with the occurrence of vacuum in the mouth, which may affect the surgical stitches and they can break down under the influence of changes in pressure in the oral and nasal areas. Sports and other physical activities should be also  limited, as well as a visit to the sauna, solarium and air flights at least for a few days, because of  the possible overloading, which is strictly forbidden.

All these restrictions are not forever, but on a specified period on the average from four to seven days depending on the complexity of the surgery. The doctor will also prescribe medication for an adaptation period after the surgery, taking into account the individual features of each clinical situation. The strict observance of these recommendations will reduce the risk of complications to a minimum and the healing of sutures and implant osseointegration will be much faster.

The company of Bio3 Implants together with its partners  implantologists wish you a speedy successful completion of the adaptation period  after treatment and  advises the first time to refrain from any sudden movements, climbing stairs without elevator, traveling to the mountains and to avoid hypothermia and cold-related diseases. Try not to use too hot, cold or hard food, alcohol and spicy additives.
