Intramucosal implants: why are they unusual?

In order to fix the implant – retained over denture it is necessary to integrate some implants in the jawbone, and then to place a design on them using various types of attachment which will provide both aesthetic and chewing function. Thanks to its “non-fixed” these prostheses are extremely easy to replace and to restore, while fixed designs require repeated surgery after their breakdown. By the way, modern non-fixed over dentures are quite affordable in the  price aspect and today  a very high level of aesthetics has been reached –  the fact that the design can be easily removed  and can be  easily returned to its  place, is  known only for  you and for your dentist.

And what is the role of intramucosal implants or intramucosal inserts, as they are called? The thing is that every invention even the most comfortable has some disadvantages. Non-fixed over dentures have disadvantages in the application process: it is necessary to remove them at night or for cleaning and at the same time it is necessary to have a reliable fixation in any case of life. And for this reliable fixation intramucosal implants are necessary which consist of two parts and used for fixation of a removable prosthesis to the upper jaw.

It should be noted that such implants are required in a large amount and they are represented like elements, which are similar to the buttons, one part is soldered into the denture and the other is implanted into the mucosal tissue of the gums. It makes possible to avoid traumatizing the bone-implant healing and provide a reliable attachment of the design in the oral cavity, not to disturb the articulation function, taste and it even allows you to forget about the fact that the design is removable.

Such an unusual way of fixing the implant- retained over denture allows to avoid a variety of possible contraindications for dental implant procedure of other method. There are only certain requirements to the mucous membrane – the thickness should not be less than 2.2 mm, it will be a decisive factor for the use of intramucosal inserts. The sequence of insertion will be following. After determining whether thickness of the mucous mucous is enough for implant insertion, the attachment point of the prosthesis is defined, and therefore the insert location. It is done using the prosthesis and the solution of brilliant green- attachment points on the prosthesis are marked by dye solution, and then implants are inserted in marked areas after prosthetic try-in. Most often two rows of inserts are used, but no more than 14. Gingival troughs are made in the marked areas where implants inserted. The whole process of implant treatment is performed under local anesthesia.

After intramucosal implants insertion and final prosthetic try-in  it is necessary not to remove it  during a week for better adaptation process, but it is important to remember that a responsible approach to the oral cavity hygiene and sanitation rules is the main factor that affects comfort and absence of complications in the process of using removable intramucosal implant-retained  over dentures.
